In the May 2020 edition of Wireless we consider the legacy of Ronan O’Rahilly, the founder of the UK offshore pirate Radio Caroline, who died in April. Veteran broadcaster and former pirate Declan Meehan explains how O’Rahilly changed the shape of radio in both Britain and Ireland. We listen again to interviews with Peter Moore of Radio Caroline about the station’s return to AM under a community licence in 2017, fifty years after the station defied the new UK broadcasting laws. And on the tenth anniversary of the death of Gerry Ryan, we look back at the radio career of the renowned Irish broadcaster.
